PRE-REGISTRATION and payment is REQUIRED by 4:00pm, Friday, October 4, 2024
REGISTRATION INFORMATION:
Please note the purpose of Torpedoes Swim Team is to enhance swimmers’ existing swim techniques and is not formal, individualized swim lessons
- Registration is open to: Children who are West Springfield Residents currently enrolled in Grades K-12 ($125 fee for 1st Child. Additional children in same household, $120 fee). Children who are Non-Residents currently enrolled in Grades K-12 ($175 fee)
- Registration fee is refundable if swimmer decides not to participate OR if Head Coach does not approve the swimmer on or before October 17th.
- Practices take place Monday - Thursday at the West Springfield High School Sady Pool, practices times are 5:45pm-6:45pm, 6:15pm-7:45pm, or 6:30pm-8:15pm depending on the swimmers level. Head Coach will place swimmer in appropriate level.
- Swimmers attend 2 - 4 practices a week. Swimmers are required to practice a minimum of two nights a week.
- Swim meets tentatively will begin Saturday, November 2nd.
-Swimmers must swim in 4 or more meets during the season to participate in League Champs.
- Competitive swimsuits are available to order during registration for an additional fee (Boys Suit $50 - Girls Suit $65). Swimsuit sizing is available during the season's first two weeks (October 7th-October 17th).
- All children ages 8 & under must be supervised by a parent/guardian at all times (meets & practices. Children ages 9 & 10 must be signed in and out by a parent/guardian.
SWIMMING REQUIREMENTS:
- Swimmers who are 8 years old or younger MUST be able to swim 25 yards (one length of the pool) freestyle without touching the bottom of the pool, wall or lane line, along with 25 yards backstroke without touching the wall or lane line.
- Swimmers who are 9 years old or older MUST be able to meet the above requirements for 50 yards (two lengths of the pool).
By the end of the tryout period, all swimmers must understand and be able to circle swim as part of a group, while using proper breathing techniques based on the stroke they are swimming. NEW SWIMMERS: We will be holding the first two weeks of practices as open enrollment starting on Monday, October 7, 2024. Potential Swimmers that have not been on the team should come at 5:45pm-7:00pm as many nights as possible during this two week time period to see if competitive swimming is a fit for them.
RETURNING TORPEDOES SWIMMERS: Practices start on Tuesday, October 15, 2024. Please come to the practice times you were last in.
Practices times are Level 1: 5:45pm ‐ 6:45pm, Level 2: 6:15pm ‐ 7:45pm, Level 3: 6:30pm ‐ 8:15pm.
Interested in volunteering? Torpedoes Swim Team is actively looking for individuals to assist the team. Needed: Board Members, Deck Duty Supervisors, Swim Meet Volunteers (concessions, timers, stroke & turn officials, etc.) Thank you in advance!
